Finding Stillness - Mobile Making Workshop
Join me for the morning at Gallery 19a during my exhibition where you can find balance and creativity while crafting your own mobile.
This workshop is designed to help you cultivate a centered state of mind. Together, we’ll explore the concept of stillness, both in art and in life. The mobile you create will serve as a beautiful visual reminder to bring a sense of calm whenever you need it in your everyday routine.
I’ll provide all the materials and guidance you need to create your own piece of art, focusing on color, composition, and balance.
We’ll kick things off with a cup of tea and a moment to unwind, allowing you to settle into the space and leave behind the busyness of your day before we start a morning of creative exploration. We'll have a break for snacks half way through the session.
What to Expect:
We will be creating a two-frame, tiered mobile.
You’ll have the opportunity to choose your color palette from the options shown in the image carousel above.
When you arrive, you’ll receive a variety of shapes in your chosen colors to work with, as well as materials to make your frames, thread, and a gold hoop to incorporate into your design.
If you’d like to swap a color or two from my collection once you see the options in person, that’s no problem at all.
The first part of the session will focus on composition, hanging length, and experimenting with layouts.
Once we’ve drafted your design, we’ll move on to building your mobile in three dimensions, carefully working through the balancing points to ensure that your piece moves beautifully.
You’ll have the opportunity to use pliers and a drill (if you're comfortable using a drill, or I’m happy to do that part for you). The process of creating a mobile does require a level of dexterity. If you have arthritis in your hands or difficulty with a solid pincer grip please get in touch and we can chat about how we can modify the workshop to accommodate your needs.
I’ll also guide you through selecting the right fixings to hang your mobile, offering either a sticky removable hook or a self-tapping screw hook.
At the end of the session, I’ll wrap up your mobile carefully, and you’ll be able to take it home in a flat A3 package
